School Pop-Ups

This past year, the Rotaract Princess Project took an exciting new step in raising awareness by hosting pop-up shops at local schools during lunch hours. With the support of schools including Goderich District Collegiate Institute (GDCI), South Huron District High School (SHDHS), and Central Huron Secondary School (CHSS), our volunteers set up displays to share the mission of the program directly with students.

Each pop-up featured a small selection of 5–10 dresses, giving students a chance to see the variety and quality of the formal wear we lend out. Alongside the dresses, we provided signage and information cards for students to take home, and a committee member was present to answer questions and explain how the program works.

These visits weren’t just about showcasing the dresses. they were about starting conversations. By meeting students where they are, we were able to spread the word about sustainability, accessibility, and the importance of having equal opportunities to feel confident and celebrated at milestone events.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Students appreciated the chance to learn more about the program in an informal setting, and many shared excitement about borrowing outfits for upcoming school events. Teachers and school staff also expressed their support, recognizing the value of making this resource visible and accessible to all.

Looking ahead, we hope to continue these pop-ups as a regular part of our outreach. By building awareness early, we can ensure more students know that the Princess Project is here to support them, while also encouraging sustainable choices that reduce textile waste in our community.

At its heart, the Princess Project is about inclusion, dignity, and care for the environment. Pop-up shops are just one more way we’re bringing that vision to life.
