On the Radio in 2021: Country 104.9

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

"Goderich Program For High School Students Needing Formal Wear Hopes To Expand" is the title of the interview conducted by Fadi Didi on Country 104.9. Read their blurb below or use the link to listen.

A program providing free dresses, suits, and accessories to Goderich high school students in need is hoping to expand. Sam Gowanlock started the “Princess Project” as a student at Goderich District Collegiate Institute in 2013. Gowanlock says the program began when she noticed some classmates could not attend formal school functions because of the costs associated with formal attire.

Since beginning, Gowanlock says over a hundred donations of dresses and formal wear have been made.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has hampered schools’ abilities to host semi-formal and prom events, and the Princess Project has not loaned their items since March of 2020. Thankfully, the program could expand to include schools other than G.D.C.I..

Gowanlock says the Princess Project has joined forces with local Rotaract officials, to become the “Rotaract Princess Project.” She tells Country 104.9 News she hopes to see the program expand to all schools in the Avon Maitland District School Board, as well as the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board. If you want to donate formal wear to the Rotaract Princess Project, you can contact the group through Facebook to make arrangements.
